Before the debate, The Great Depression was happening. Americans couldn't find jobs, people didn't have any homes, men begging for food and jobs. This happened to be why some Americans didn't want to go to war. Americans thought going to war would cost more taxes for the military. When England and France Declared war on Germany, the United States didn't want to get involved at first since there was an economical problem. Some Americans wanted to go to war since they thought that they were going to attack us anyway. On December 7, 1941 they were right, but before the Pearl Harbor attack there was a debate whether or not to go to war.
